Why I support Sen. Santorum

Alex of this blog had a great idea - let's tell people why we are supporting Sen. Santorum.

So here's my thoughts on why I am supporting the good Senator:

I could go into the many policy issues that I agree with the Senator on. I could cite specific legislative accomplishments. I could cite specific speeches he's given on a plethora of issues. I could cite a whole host of specific reasons why I support Sen. Rick Santorum - but I'm not going to here.

I like to look at the big picture when it comes to who I support. When I throw my support behind a candidate, I do it for a couple of reasons. First, is the candidate genuine? - meaning do they say what they mean, and mean what they say. Too many politicians play word games and are Clintonesque ("depends on the meaning of is, comes to mind). Second, does a candidate have the courage of their convictions? I want to support someone who will stand for what they think is right, even in times when that isn't popular. Why? If they are willing to do that, they are willing to go to bat for their constituents when they need to. Third, does the candidate have a vision? Why are they running for office? If they can't answer that basic question, there is no way they will get my support.

Senator Santorum earned my whole-hearted support because he is genuine, he has the courage of his convictions, and his vision is a positive and encouraging vision.

In this day and age, there aren't many candidates for office who have all three of these things - luckily, our Senator does.

No, he's not genuine.

No, he has no courage, nor does he have convictions.

He has a negative and discouraging vision based on fear and doubt.

Got Milk? No, but I bet Santorum can give you a nice fake shake.

Thanks for the gutless anonymous comments.

I believe it's important to support Santorum because with Frist's retirement, he could possibly be the Majority Leader in the Senate, since he now holds the #3 rank. He would be an excellent Majority Leader.
