We’re done here, but we continue elsewhere.
A message from Senator Santorum.
I am so blessed to be surrounded by not only my loving family but so many wonderful supporters committed to the future of our state and our nation.
Although the results were not what we wanted, we couldn’t be prouder of our campaign and the job we’ve done for you and your families. You should be proud too for the hours you spent making calls, knocking on doors, talking to family, friends and neighbors and all the other time you spent thinking about and working on our re-election.
We’re humbled by your devotion and your faith.
My wife Karen and I thank God for the opportunity to have served our nation and the greatest state in the nation. We’ve used that gift to try and do good for Pennsylvania, our nation and our world.
We stood up for the family, for the most vulnerable from the beginning of life to the end of life, and we didn’t forget those in between. We worked for those who are disadvantaged in this country and those who are suffering around the world.
We worked for the greater prosperity of you and your family.
And most important, on the principle that matters more than any other, we didn’t back down from confronting the threat that confronts us from overseas.
People have asked me why I talked about unpopular things like the war … the threat from Islamic fascists, from Iran, from North Korea, from Venezuela … in this campaign. They asked, why didn’t you just talk about the projects you delivered or the things that you accomplished?
My answer is that those are the things in the past, and what leaders are supposed to do is to talk about things that our country confronts in the future.
And I did, and I’m very proud of that. I do not rescind a word because those words are words that this country was not receptive to hear tonight. But, they are going to continue to hear those words from me and I assure you from many others as that threat become my clear, and hopefully our country is called to action to stop that threat before it becomes too serious of a threat to the future of our country.
My time as your U.S. Senator is coming to a close, but I will continue to work for you, and for all of the wonderful people we have met and worked for over the years.
I can’t thank you enough.
God Bless.

I’d like to thank the 100K + readers who have been reading SantorumBlog since I started keeping track.
I’d also like to thank my contributors, without their help this would not have been possible.
It’s a bummer that Rick lost, but that’s how elections go.
We’ll be around.
Many thanks to the Wall Street Journal for linking to SantorumBlog.com on their uncertain states roundup.
They also link to A Big Fat Slob, ostensibly to balance the pro-Santorum bent of yours truly with a pro-Casey side. Except that Mr Slob is more of a nose-holder for Casey than a pro-Casey gung-ho type.
Heh.
In anycase, welcome to all those Wall Street Journal readers!
In order to stem an outbreak of comment spam, I enabled comment moderation for any post with more than one link. Just an FYI.
Yesterday, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s “Early Returns” subtly slammed my post on Casey’s commercial, “Debbie“:
“Meanwhile, Santorum HQ, on what was apparently a slow news day, questions the grammar comprehension of hospital worker and PTA mother who appeared in a Casey ad: “Can Casey not read, or do Casey’s supporters have a problem in that department?” Shorthand: Mr. Casey is stupid. People who support him can’t read. Vote for Santorum!”
I don’t care if Debbie Balcik is the Queen of Sheba. She clearly doesn’t understand what Santorum wrote in his book, and the fact that Casey’s people put the actual quote right next to the video strongly indicates that they either have a problem with the English language or a problem with the truth.
In typical fashion, the leftist Post-Gazette chooses to mock me instead of addressing my point, which is that Casey’s ad makes no sense. The Post-Gazette misidentified SantorumBlog as “Santorum HQ”. Newsflash: we are not a part of the Santorum campaign, see the bottom of the left column. Gotta love that P-G fact checking.
As a politician and blogger, I see my share of trolls. They shoot you an e-mail or post on your blog out of nowhere…usually saying vile and silly stuff just to get a reaction. Unfortunately for them, my reaction is laughter!
So…I was minding my own business when I get a fishy little e-mail from tommassio@peoplepc.com:
“Hi, I’m a Pa resident who voted for Santorum in the last election, but yesterday, my gay brother sent me an email with several quotes Rick made about gay citizens. The quote I found most offensive was his linking homosexuality to bestiality….???? Rick also blamed Boston for the sex abuse crisis in the Catholic Church???? Do you know if Rick has modified his views on homosexual citizens/voters? I also thought Casey clearly won the Meet the Press debate, so I’m kinda leaning towards Casey now….any input would be appreciated, thx!”
My “Jim Quinn BS Detector” instantly went off as I read through the message. The typical liberal seminars tell people to say, “I’m a conservative, but…” or “I always vote GOP, but…,” so this e-mail seemed goofy from the start. It then goes on to hit two of the more popular leftist talking points - lies that the left has created by intentionally misquoting Senator Santorum. The note closes with the clincher “Casey clearly won the MTP debate…..” The jig, as they say, is now up. Even the most left of leftists are embarrassed by Casey’s performance.
I did a quick check and there is no listing for a “Tom Massio” in our great commonwealth. I also found out that this distraught conservative has been sending variations of the same e-mail all around. You gotta love how trolls dig for the truth!
To be a compassionate conservative, I point to the post on this blog that debunks the homosexuality remark and recommend the posts that show left/center/right views on the debate, of which there are scores.
This morning, I get the following reply:
“Um, I guess it KINDA goes without saying that the Santorum blog would say that Rick won the debate, despite what I clearly saw as a Casey win,( Rick had that “deer caught in the headlights” look that did’nt help him either) and as I said, Rick’s quote on gays LINKED homosexuality to bestiality, so your blog referal is of no use to me.( I simply wondered if Rick had changed his stance, guess not…) I guess if yr response is all a Santorum supporter can come up with, and in light of another email from my gay brother with many other anti-gay citizen quotes made by Rick, that I received today, I have decided that I will not be voting for Santorum this time around. Now that I know what a bigot Rick is (thx to my gay brother), I’ll be voting for Casey, and forwarding my broither’s email to other Pa. voters. But thx for helping me become a Casey voter, Rich….and I guess the Pa. voters will decide who won the debate, won’t they?”
Notice how quickly the troll dismisses the views on SantorumBlog. Of course we’re pro-Rick, but we do try to be fair - hence the listing of views from the left and the center. He also shows he didn’t even read the debunking of the homosexuality issue - Santorum’s quote clearly separates homosexuality and bestiality.
My favorite part is the closer - I helped this intelligent fact-finder become a Casey voter because I didn’t put up a strong enough defense for Rick - as if this guy was even going to read it. Oddly (sarcasm), this guy didn’t list even one of the “many other anti-gay quotes made by Rick” in his e-mails. If that is the crux of your reason for going pro-Casey, wouldn’t you at least list something?
Amazingly, in just one day, this guy went from “kinda leaning towards Casey” to calling Santorum a “bigot” and actively seeking to see Santorum defeated by sending his e-mail to the ambiguous “other PA voters.” Talk about a turnaround!
Don’t you just love the games the lefties play? Maybe I’ll send his e-mail to all the PA voters I know.
